Case Study: Upgrading a 24-Year-Old HVAC System in Irvine
In Irvine, a homeowner faced a major HVAC dilemma: their 24-year-old Carrier system, still using R-22 refrigerant, was nearly out of coolant and on the verge of breakdown. The aging system had suffered multiple faults and costly repair estimates. As Today’s Homeowner explains, R-22 was phased out in 2020 and prices have soared (meaning over $1,000 for a full recharge). Rather than continue throwing money at repairs for an antiquated system, our All Set Service team recommended replacing the entire unit with a new high-efficiency setup.
We performed a load calculation and chose a 5-ton system sized for the home. The new AC Pro package included an inverter-driven outdoor condenser and a matching indoor furnace. The inverter (variable-speed) compressor continuously adjusts its speed, minimizing the wasted energy of on/off cycling and maintaining a steady temperature. We also installed a modern gas furnace built to ultra-low NOx standards, ensuring emissions below California’s 14 ng/J limi. These high-efficiency components deliver consistent comfort, lower energy use, and compliance with air-quality regulations.
